Made in Spring Festival and the artist Shaun Featherstone would like to invite you to the first RED SHOES MARCH, starting on Saturday 3 May at Redhouse, Merthyr Tydfil, and ending on Sunday 4 May at Made in Spring Festival, Roath.

RED SHOES MARCH is a peaceful artist led response to the many cuts and proposed cuts to local service budgets, brought about by the UK government’s austerity policies. These policies are already having an effect on the way in which we experience and live our lives. Whilst the implications of the bedroom tax and the growing necessity of food banks for daily living has received a great deal of attention, there has been perhaps less focus on the continual chipping away of the cultural landscape that informs us and enriches us. Library closures, gallery closures, curtailing of community and recreational facilities – our country is suffering from a form of ‘cultural vandalism’ which affects us all. What is being lost today across so many communities will have profound, life changing, social implications now, tomorrow and for future generations. As a group we will march together to mark a time when what few opportunities there still are for genuine social progress and mobility in Britain are in danger of being swept away by wave after wave of vicious, ideological change.

RED SHOES MARCH is a 26 mile march taking place across two days along the Taff Trail. On Saturday 3 May we will depart from Redhouse Merthyr and proceed the 19 miles to Taffs Well, and on Sunday 4th March we will rejoin the path to walk from Taffs Well to Roath in Cardiff. There will be regular stops along the way to provide refreshments and for fellow marchers to join or leave the march as they wish, food will be provided free of charge, and there will also be various cultural and artist led interventions en route, with the opportunity to engage with them along the way.

RED SHOES MARCH extends a fraternal invitation to anyone affected by the austerity cuts.

Busy times now, thanks to Arts Council of Wales for a grant towards the 'RED SHOES' project. Hoping to work with lots of fellow activists, like minded creatives.  Also current and retired trade unionists.  May Day march from Merthyr to Roath; exhibition at G39, gigs, workshops and meetings.  Here's a basic flyer.

'red shoes' my latest project will be at G39, Cardiff (http://www.g39.org/ ) in May this year. Just found out my application for Arts Council of Wales funding was successful. Their support will ensure I can fully realise the project's potential.

Weds May 21st - 'Spirit of 45'* film screening, discussion and workshop.  Retired and current members of the trade union Unison will join me to discuss Ken Loach's 2013 film and the issues it raises.  
*”Spirit of 45”  is a fascinating documentary which explores the setting up of major public services by the socialist Labour Government in 1945, most notably the NHS, (and nationalisation of) key economic and social infrastructures, and the ‘cradle to grave’ culture of  free services.

Saturday 3rd May -  Red Shoes commences with a march from Merthyr to Cardiff on 3/4^th May.  The march, in celebration of International Workers Day (May Day) is part of the Made in Spring weekend and will start from the newly opened Red House arts centre in Merthyr Tydfil.

MA Degree show, CSAD, Howard Gardens, Cardiff.
Friday 7th September 6.30pm (runs until 14th September).

I am busy writing up the final draft of the MA dissertation at the moment - which in general terms grapples with relational aesthetics in a socio-political context. Then it's straight on to creating the installation for my degree show - which I am so excited about.  There's a rumour doing the rounds that I am going to be giving away FnR merchandise and have live dj sets as part of my opening night exhibition - CHAMPAGNE CHARLIE & DJ EDINBURGH PHIL on the decks with FREE bubbly for loyal frock n robe supporter's.  I can neither confirm or deny this will be the case or that there will also be an after party in a well know Cardiff pub.  It's just speculation!! (Best stick it in your diary though just in case)
